My Career Philosophy
I have always been drawn to building things — organizations, businesses, products, teams and, perhaps most importantly, people.
My career has taken me through military service, engineering, education, healthcare and entrepreneurship. The industries have changed, but the underlying question has remained remarkably consistent: how do you take something with potential and make it better?
A life of building
In many ways, my career philosophy can be traced back to a simple belief I first encountered as a young officer cadet in the Singapore Armed Forces:
To lead, to excel and to overcome.
At the time, it felt like a military slogan. Looking back, I realise it became a guiding philosophy that has shaped much of my professional life.
To me, leadership is ultimately about people — helping teams achieve more than they thought possible, creating environments where individuals can do their best work, and taking responsibility for outcomes when challenges arise. Excellence is the discipline of continually improving, learning and giving one's best effort. Overcoming is the belief that obstacles are rarely reasons to stop; they are problems to be understood and solved.
These principles have followed me throughout a career that has spanned military leadership, engineering, healthcare administration, entrepreneurship and education. While the industries have been different, the underlying challenge has often been the same: understanding complex problems, bringing people together, and building systems that create meaningful and lasting value.
I believe these experiences have given me a perspective that crosses traditional industry boundaries. By combining lessons from public service, healthcare, technology and business, I hope to bring greater depth to the organizations I support, the people I lead, and the ideas I choose to pursue.
